Why are people so enamored with the concept of freedom?
Not only in western culture but in every culture the concept and ideology of freedom exists. But why? There are songs about freedom, and numerous definitions of the word. Movies are dedicated to the centrality of freedom. Countries are built because of freedom. Wars waged over the word, freedom.
But why have we fallen in love with the word? The earth on which we live is yearning for freedom:

The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Romans 8:19-22

We all, like the earth yearn to be free from bondage. We feel it, and yet we try to ignore it by living our lives like nothing is the matter. We try and place material things in our lives, money, sex, popularity and nothing can fill the void and longing for freedom.
Sin has messed everything up, our perspectives, our ideologies, our declarations, even our families. We long to be free from pain, hurts, sickness, failures, prejudices, violence, war, plagues, famine, poverty, cancer, etc.
The good news is that God knew all of these things would take place in our lives and yet He cares for us. God cares for you. He made a way, through His Son Jesus, for you to be free.  The Bible tells us, that all who place their hope, faith and trust in Jesus they will no longer be slaves to sin and will one day be free from the destruction that sin has caused.
My mother-in-law, Orella, has been battling brain cancer for two years and the hospice nurse has said today, that the family has days left with her. It is tough to watch the family deal with such a heavy burden, almost like watching a movie in slow-motion. Orella is a believer so their is hope beyond this life and she will be made new in the life to come.

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. Isaiah 61:1-3
