Myth: God will never give you more than you can handle.
This myth comes from a misunderstanding of the following verse:
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. 1 Corinthians 10:13
This verse is talking about the temptations of sin, not trials and difficult circumstances of life.
Fact: You will face tough circumstances/trials in this life; some of which will be beyond what you can handle. Though God, our strength and refuge, is not far off.
Check out what Paul had to say about his troubles..
We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. 2 Corinthians 1:8
Beyond their ability to endure…
There may be times when the doctor calls with news of cancer…
The death of a child…
A failed marriage…
But then Paul goes on to say in the very next verse something so significant to this topic.
In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. 2 Corinthians 1:9
There will come a time that you wish you didn’t have to go through the pain that this life can give. I implore you to never give up on God’s power, God’s strength, God’s ability to work through your circumstance to display His great name!
