Who is in control?

With all of the political ads, ballot issues, and partisan rhetoric who can figure out what is the right thing to do? Who will guide the country? Where are we headed? Will our nation be divided even more going forward?

For believers, there is a simple step to take when trying to wade through the political turmoil of our day. We are to recognize who is in control.

Recently, I have been preaching through the book of Daniel and the theme of God’s sovereignty is repeated throughout Daniel’s writings. Check out a verse in chapter two:

He changes times and seasons;
he deposes kings and raises up others.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.
Daniel 2:21

God, alone, changes times and seasons. He even deposes kings and raises up others. God is sovereign over ALL things!

Yes, God sets up rulers, presidents, and world leaders.

Check out this passage from Acts 17:

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being. Acts 17:24-28

Paul teaches us here that God sets times in history and boundaries of men. He alone knows when and where we will live. He knows our leaders before we do!

Questions to contemplate:

1. Do I place my whole trust in God?
2. How can I reflect God during this politically charged season?
3. If God is sovereign over ALL things, what do I need to let go of?

Love God Love People.
